SINE CERA
“Sine cera” meaning “without wax” is a phrase dating back to the Renaissance-era. Sculptors would use wax in order to hide their mistakes- leaving the sculpture to look free of any imperfections. As a result, sculptors who chose not to cover their pieces in wax were expressing a true work of art. Lea uses this phrase to describe her devotion to keeping her art honest and sincere--mistakes and all. Lea’s work combines different elements and mediums to create a visual tempo where rules do not necessarily apply. Inspiration for much of her work can be linked to song lyrics, folk tales, and simple places. Her various inspirations make it easy to form a personal and lasting connection. Whether it be the shape of a guitar wrapped tightly in blue wire taking the name of a well known 70’s rock song or a human figure form, her art is very eclectic. There is an explanation behind every piece of art that Lea is always happy share.
